DOW-MIT ACCESS Program, Deadline to Apply: June 15, 2012

We are writing to inform you of an exciting program hosted by the Departments of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. The DOW-MIT ACCESS Program is a weekend-long symposium aimed to expose underrepresented minority students to the benefits of a graduate education in the aforementioned research areas. This 4th annual event, taking place on MIT’s campus October 12th and October 13th, is an interactive and informative symposium that has proven to have a lasting impact on its past participants.


Over half of our ACCESS alumni are now enrolled in graduate programs across the country. We hope you will apply to this program as we continue to work toward increasing the number of under-represented minorities in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science.

Cornell University - Diversity Hosting Weekend for Prospective Students, Deadline to Apply: July 16, 2012

Are you interested in studying how the earth responds to climate change, or do you wish to slow climate change by helping to develop new energy systems?  There are two Integrated Graduate Education, Research and Training (IGERT) programs at Cornell with multiple opportunities for graduate students!  Come learn more about the programs and how to apply!

·         The Cornell Earth Energy IGERT brings together students seeking degrees in Engineering and Geosciences in a unique program designed to provide both communities with a common language to address energy challenges. Topics include: Carbon Sequestration, Unconventional Gas from Shale Resources, Fossil Energy Recovery, Geothermal Energy, and Earth Systems Behavior and Resources.

·         The Cross-Scale Biogeochemistry and Climate IGERT brings together students and faculty from nine Cornell departments, the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, and the National Center for Atmospheric Research to study the microbial, ecosystem, and global-scale causes and feedbacks to climate change.  Topics include multi-scale study of the production and consumption of greenhouse gases as well as global earth system modeling.

Columbia Engineering EngAGE, Deadline to Apply: February 10, 2012

Columbia Engineering is honored to host the first annual Engineering Achievers in Graduate Education program (Columbia Engineering EngAGE). This diversity recruitment program will allow us to invite the brightest engineering and applied science achievers to join us in New York City for an all-expense paid weekend including round-trip travel, meals, and hotel accommodations, March 8-10, 2012. This program will give talented prospective graduate students the unique opportunity to visit our vibrant campus and meet with faculty and students in their research areas as well as with our admissions staff to help them begin to prepare competitive application packages. Recruitment of Engineering ACHievers (REACH) deadline extended

The USC Viterbi School of Engineering announces a DATE CHANGE for its Fall 2011 Recruitment of Engineering ACHievers (REACH) event for prospective Ph.D. students. The event will take place on November 2-5, 2011, instead of the original date in October. The new dates allow us to combine with the Graduate and Professional Programs Preview Day for prospective M.S. and Ph.D. students on November 4, 2011.

We are also extending the deadline to apply to REACH until Thursday, October 6, 2011 so that more interested students can apply.

REACH brings to the USC campus talented students from all over the U.S. who plan on, or are seriously considering, pursuing a Ph.D. in an engineering field. This event is particularly geared toward students from backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in the field of engineering: African-American, Latino and Native American. Travel expenses, hotels and meals are all paid for by the USC Viterbi School.

If you are seriously considering pursuing a Ph.D. in engineering and are entering your junior or senior year or are a recent graduate in an engineering, mathematics or physical science major, we invite you to apply to REACH. As a selected participant, you will attend presentations by faculty about doctoral research opportunities; will tour the campus and the engineering facilities, including labs; will meet with current students to discuss graduate student life; will discuss applying for admission and financial aid with experienced engineering staff; and will interact with prospective and current engineering students as well as faculty and staff. Engineering Grad School Preview at Wisconsin, Deadline: September 23, 2011

The College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin Madison is again hosting a three-day graduate recruitment event scheduled for October 26 - October 30, 2011. The conference gives selected students an opportunity to hear faculty research presentations, tour laboratories, meet with current graduate students and individually with faculty in the students area of interest, and tour the city of Madison as well as the UW campus. All expenses including travel, housing, and food are paid in full by the College of Engineering (with the exception of food for Saturday and Sunday). We are particularly interested in identifying underrepresented candidates including women and students of color. All applicants should be in their Junior or Senior year; students who have already completed a baccalaureate or Masters degree are also eligible.

Vanderbilt Graduate Preview Weekend

The VU-EDGE Program is collaborating with GEM (The National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc.) to host a graduate recruitment event at Vanderbilt University from Thursday, October 28, 2010 through Saturday, October 30, 2010. The VU- EDGE Program will fund travel and lodging for the fifty (50) students who will be invited to attend this event. Participation in this event is by invitation only.

Juniors and seniors who are majoring in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) field, are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, are from an under-represented minority group (African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, and Native Americans), and are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in a discipline offered at Vanderbilt may apply to participate in this event. Students must have earned a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in their major. Also, students must NOT have been a participant in an extra-mural research experience at Vanderbilt.

Selected participants will be transported to and from the Nashville International Airport by shuttle on their arrival and departure dates. Transportation will also be provided to and from Vanderbilt University to the host hotel. Participants will share a double room, and all meals will be provided during the event. Travel and lodging arrangements will be handled by the VU-EDGE office.

CONVERGE at MIT for Graduate Engineering Opportunities

Cambridge, often called "Boston's Left Bank" is home to MIT, one of the world leaders in engineering education. If you're a strong engineering junior or senior, and member of a group that's underrepresented in engineering, MIT invites you for a visit in November to learn about graduate programs.
