Program Description

MassMutual is proud to sponsor the MassMutual Scholars Program presented by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), UNCF and the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF).
The MassMutual Scholars Program is funded by the MassMutual Financial Group, and is focused on expanding access and opportunity of higher education and employment to citizens who reflect the rich cultural diversity of our nation.  MassMutual seeks to increase the number of minority students completing college nationally and raising awareness of our national agencies and careers in the insurance and financial services industry.
In 2011, MassMutual looks forward to assisting full time students (maximum $5,000 each) with over $135,000 in scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be of African American/Black, Asian/Pacific Islander or Hispanic decent
  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired)
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Have plans to attend FULL-TIME in a degree-seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam during the 2011-2012 academic year
  • Be entering their sophomore, junior, senior or 5th-year senior year at a college or university or entering their 2nd or 3rd year in a community college
  • Reside or plan to attend an institution in one of the following metropolitan areas:  Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; New Jersey; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Miami, FL; Los Angeles, CA; San Antonio, TX; or San Francisco, CA
  • Students of all majors will be considered
  • Demonstrate leadership and extra curricular activities andinterest in insurance and financial services careers
  • Must apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency internship-- Deadline May 15, 2011

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the nation’s premier source of geospatial intelligence, is inviting University of Illinois students to apply during their entry-level hiring event. As a Department of Defense combat support agency and a member of the U.S. Intelligence Community, NGA provides imagery analysis, maps and geospatial data for U.S. national defense, disaster relief and safety of navigation. NGA seeks to know the earth, show the way and understand the world.

All applicants must be U.S. citizens and able to acquire a top-secret security clearance. In addition, most positions require a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience for consideration.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is looking for energetic and highly motivated students for internships.  Numerous opportunities are available within EPA for students to gain valuable work experience while contributing to the mission of protecting human health and safeguarding the environment.  Student summer employment opportunities are available at EPA’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., and at regional office and laboratory locations nationwide.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • All U.S. citizens, including residents of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and other U.S. territories may apply;
  • Applicants must be rising sophomores, juniors, seniors and full-time graduate students attending an U.S. accredited institution as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education;
  • Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale (B average and above); and
  • Applicants may be pursuing a degree in:Economics, Math, Science, Engineering, Business, Communications, Marketing, Information Technology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Finance, Law, other areas relating to public service and environmental concerns.

LOFT ExxonMobil Fellowship- Deadline May 6, 2011

ExxonMobil, one of the world’s largest publically traded International oil & gas companies, has partnered with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) to create fellowships in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for Hispanic college students.
 
Selected students will be exposed to a top quality company by participating in this signature mentoring program.  Each student will be paired up with one of ExxonMobil engineers/scientists to learn how their knowledge is applied in a corporate setting.

Fellowship components:
·         Five 1-hour meetings with mentor (virtual or in person)
·         Participation in the Harvard-certified ExxonMobil mentee program (on-line), an exclusive curriculum to introduce Fellows to the culture and vast career opportunities with the company
·         $ 1,000 educational grant
·         The possibility to interview for ExxonMobil positions (internships/full-time) upon successful completion of the Fellowship

This opportunity is open to 20 sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students attending a 4 year college or university with declared primary majors in:
