Description
The
Freshman Engineering Program in the College of Engineering at the University of
Arkansas, Fayetteville, seeks applications for the position of Associate
Director, Student Services Program. This position is a full-time, twelve-month
position with fringe benefits. The Associate Director provides leadership to
the Student Services Program and supports other academic functions of the
Freshman Engineering Program.
Annual Salary

Minimum Requirements
A post-graduate degree in higher education or engineering
education is required. Significant experience in leading student services
activities is required.
Applicants must demonstrate the skills necessary to conduct
assessment of program activities, to perform scholarship related to program
activities, to interact with constituents as appropriate, and to manage
financial matters. The successful individual will plan the College of
Engineering activities associated with New Student Orientation, coordinate the
activities designed to assist first-year engineering students with choosing
their discipline-specific major, coordinate the Freshman Engineering Program
Honors Research Symposium, coordinate academic assistance programs for
first-year engineering students, and serve on college and university committees
as appropriate. The successful individual will also serve as the academic
advisor to a significant portion of the Freshman Engineering student body.

of the Upstate Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP)
program. The Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Syracuse
University LSAMP grant, including development, implementation, and supervision
of all student programs which identify and respond to student development and
academic support needs; proposal, quarterly and annual report writing and
submission; management of program budgets while assuring compliance of all
mandated grant and university priorities, procedures and goals, and supervising
staff. The Director provides overall direction and administrative
leadership for the SU LSAMP program; participates as a member of the Operations
Team as Alliance Coordinator for the Upstate LSAMP; facilitates and coordinates
strategies geared toward achieving the goals of the Upstate LSAMP; collaborates
with a wide variety of constituents within Syracuse University and across the
Alliance to assess needs, identify and propose initiatives, write proposals,
implement programs, and assess outcomes through data driven intelligent process
for evaluating student and programmatic successes. This position reports to the
Director of the Center for Graduate Preparation and Achievement (CGPA) at SU
and provides supervision to an administrative staff position, students, and
temporary employees.
A
Bachelor’s degree with at least five years experiences in the development and
delivery of successful student development and/or recruitment programs is
desired. The most competitive candidates will have the requisite
experience with at least a Master’s Degree. However, applicants with
exceptional records of achievement, performance and skill in lieu of the advanced
degree will merit strong consideration. A spirit of creativity,
ingenuity, collaboration, and an entrepreneurial approach to leadership are

In this role, you’ll be exercising judgment, using discretion, making decisions, developing solutions, removing obstacles, and redefining approaches all toward making the engineering experience we’re creating at your site ultra cool for these brilliant engineering students.

Geothermal Energy, and Earth Systems Behavior and Resources.

The Cross-Scale
Biogeochemistry and Climate IGERT brings together students and
faculty from nine Cornell departments, the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies,
and the National Center for Atmospheric Research to study the microbial,
ecosystem, and global-scale causes and feedbacks to climate change.
Topics include multi-scale study of the production and consumption of
greenhouse gases as well as global earth system modeling.

The application site is now open for the National Laboratories Professional Development Workshop for Underrepresented Participants (CMD-IT NLPDev 2012), for which the primary goal of this pilot program is to mentor underrepresented participants on successful strategies for navigating the professional ladder and becoming familiar with the various opportunities in computational science at the Department of Energy's national laboratories. The focus of the workshop is on the following underrepresented groups: African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and People with Disabilities.
The workshop will include panels of successful professionals discussing strategies for navigating the professional ladder, effective methods for networking within the lab as well as the broader community, being an effective team member from the perspective of team managers as well as team members, effective communication, and proposal opportunities. A panel of directors will start the workshop with an overview of the computational science research activities at their sites. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss their research via the luncheon poster session on the first day. We invite senior doctoral students and junior staff in the broad area of computational science to submit an application. All applicants will be notified by 1 May 2012. Participant costs will be covered by a grant from the Department of Energy’s Advanced Scientific Computing Research program.
The NLPDev 2012 is being organized by the Center for Minorities and People with Disabilities in IT (CMD-IT) in collaboration with representatives from Argonne National Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratories, the Alliance for Access to Computing Careers (AccessComputing), Project ENABLE, Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI), and EL Alliance.

Recent earthquakes in the US and around the world have repeatedly shown that earthquake resilience is essential to building and sustaining urban communities. Earthquake resilience will play an increasingly important role in the professions associated with earthquake hazard mitigation, and the ten-week 2012 PEER Summer Internship Program will allow you to experience how many different engineering and social science disciplines interact to research the broad goal of earthquake resilient communities.
During the summer of 2012, interns will be hosted at UC Berkeley, UC Davis and University of Washington to conduct research projects in the fields of structural engineering, geotechnical engineering and risk analysis.
Each participant will receive a stipend of $7,000, intended to cover summer housing and travel expenses to the summer project location. PEER will provide additional compensation for travel to an Orientation Workshop at UC Berkeley and to the 2012 PEER Annual Meeting.

Cornell LSAMP Research Experience for Undergraduates; Deadline to Apply: March 1, 2012
The Cornell University Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP-R) is a summer research opportunity that provides undergraduate participants with the opportunity to work with distinguished faculty and staff as well as network with others in their field of interest through weekly luncheons. This program will take place June 3 - August 8, 2012.
Undergraduate students, interested in gaining a deeper understanding in an engineering-related field, have the opportunity to conduct and present research over a ten-week duration under the auspices of a Cornell Engineering faculty research mentor. Through this one-on-one partnership, participants will gain theoretical knowledge and practical training in academic research and scientific experimentation. CU LSAMP-R was developed to aid in the retention of traditionally underrepresented minority groups in STEM.
CU LSAMP-R offers participants:
-Approximately 10 weeks of research (June 3- August 8)
-A research stipend of $3,400
-A round-trip travel stipend up to $300 for students living outside of Ithaca, NY
-A double room in a residential hall
-A campus bus pass or a campus parking pass
-Access to state-of-the-art laboratories, libraries, computer/study lounges, etc.
Further, CU LSAMP-R participants have the opportunity to:
-Develop a meaningful research agenda and conduct research with a faculty research mentor
-Present a scientific research talk
-Design a research poster and discuss their poster presentation of their research at a symposium on campus and
-Submit a written report at the end of the summer research activity that may lead to a publication

Summer 2012 Research Program: June 9 - August 10, 2012
Through this program, scholars will gain theoretical knowledge and practical training in academic research and scientific experimentation. The SU LSAMP research program was developed to aid in the retention of traditionally underrepresented groups in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
What are the benefits?-$3300 research stipend
-Round-trip travel stipend of up to $150*
-Free double occupancy room on the SU campus
-State-of-the-art laboratories, libraries, computers, etc.
*For students living outside of the Syracuse area
Who is eligible?-Students must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident and African American, Latino, American Indian/Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Native Pacific Islander.
-Applicants must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.75 or better
-Have completed at least two semesters of college
-Participants may NOT take courses during the summer program
Research AreasStudents may apply for research opportunities in any of the following STEM disciplines: Biology, Biomedical and Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Earth Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Information Studies, Mathematics, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Physics.

Columbia Engineering EngAGE, Deadline to Apply: February 10, 2012
Columbia Engineering is honored to host the first annual Engineering Achievers in Graduate Education program (Columbia Engineering EngAGE). This diversity recruitment program will allow us to invite the brightest engineering and applied science achievers to join us in New York City for an all-expense paid weekend including round-trip travel, meals, and hotel accommodations, March 8-10, 2012. This program will give talented prospective graduate students the unique opportunity to visit our vibrant campus and meet with faculty and students in their research areas as well as with our admissions staff to help them begin to prepare competitive application packages. Priority will be given to college juniors from historically underrepresented groups in engineering and applied science disciplines.

The Cornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR) is now accepting applications for its 2012 summer REU Program. This 10-week internship program gives students the opportunity to work with Cornell faculty on interdisciplinary materials research projects involving chemistry, physics, mathematics, materials science and engineering disciplines. Students will also participate in an organized program of lectures, mini-courses, laboratory visits and a variety of recreational activities. Each student will receive a $4000 stipend and reimbursement of travel expenses up to $400. On-campus housing is provided, however meals are not. The program is open to Fall 2012 undergraduates who are US Citizens or permanent residents.

Volunteer at the Orpheum Museum!
The Orpheum Museum and the University of Illinois are teaming up for the Girls Do Science Club (GDSC). Volunteers are needed to help 1st-5th grade girls with a programming project. This project is very simple, and volunteers only need to have a tiny bit of programming experience.
GDSC events will be held on:
February 20th, 3:45-4:30 and 4:45-5:30
February 27th, 3:45-4:30 and 4:45-5:30
March 5th, 3:45-4:30 and 4:45-5:30
March 12th, 3:45-4:30 and 4:45-5:30

Bioprocess Engineering for Sustainability - 2012 Research Experience for Undergraduates

This National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) gives undergraduate engineering students the opportunity to perform research and participate in educational programs in bioprocess engineering (BPE) and enjoy team-building and social activities in Blacksburg, VA. Research areas include synthetic biology and metabolic/genetic engineering for biofuel and biochemical production, protein engineering for biopharmaceuticals, and sustainable biomaterials. Participants will attend the 2012 American Chemical Society Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference in Washington DC from June 18-20.
Stipend: $4,000/summer, plus room and board.
Applicants should be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors in any engineering discipline with an interest in bioprocess engineering. Underrepresented minorities and women are particularly encouraged to apply.
