Illinois Tool Works (ITW) has a great internship opportunity! ITW is partnering with UNCF’s Corporate STEM Scholars Program to recruit and employ summer interns majoring in electrical, mechanical and industrial engineering. Upon successful completion of their summer employment interns will receive a $5000 scholarship from ITW through the UNCF.
Below are the job descriptions which include the URL for applying directly with UNCF. ITW is very enthusiastic about receiving applications from University of Illinois engineering students, so we encourage you to apply.
Assembly Efficiency Project
Signode Engineered Products, an ITW Company, is seeking Mechanical Engineering (ME) Majors for Cooperative Engineering Education opportunities. Over the course of several semesters, students in our program may work on developing the following skills:
• Assess and document current workstation design to fully understand process of assembling hand tools, mechanisms and motors for various product lines.
• Design new assembly benches to maximize space, incorporate two-bin inventory, organize workflow, boost productivity and improve ergonomics for assemblers.
• Order parts, fixtures and supplies to implement design layout, after receiving design and cost estimation approvals from management team.
• Construct benches and install fixtures to design specifications, incorporating adjustments after evaluation of redesigned benches with assemblers.
• Experience with manufacturing methods and equipment which may include machining tools and practices, materials, plastics processing and gauging.
• Controlling and reducing design and assembly costs of existing products.
• Establishing effective workplace rapport through communication, interpersonal and teambuilding skills with multiple departments including Engineering, Model Shop and Manufacturing Assembly.
Manufacturing Engineer Project
Signode Engineered Products, an ITW Company, is seeking Industrial Engineering (IE) Majors for Cooperative Engineering Education opportunities. Over the course of several semesters, students in our program may work on developing the following skills:
• Assessing, documenting and improving manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
• Develop manufacturing routing sheets (travelers) based on identifying key characteristics of each point of manufacturing operation.
• Evaluate current drawings and create new drawings of customized tools and in-process part, motor and mechanism design in 3D CAD (Solidworks).
• Gathering feedback from operators, suppliers and customers to develop the most efficient and cost effective processes and procedures while maintaining product quality.
• Experience with manufacturing methods and equipment which may include machining tools and practices (CNC mills, lathes and grinders), materials, heat treating, plating, die castings, sand castings, investment castings, sheet metal, forgings, powdered metal, plastics processing and gauging.
• Establishing effective workplace rapport through communication, interpersonal and teambuilding skills with multiple departments including Engineering, Model Shop and Manufacturing Assembly.
Ongoing Co-operative Education Opportunities (3 – 4 semesters/summers):
