Position
Cornell University College of
Engineering seeks an experienced professional for the position of Associate
Director of Engineering Leadership. The Associate Director will work with the
Director and others to develop, implement, and evaluate programs, events, and
administrative systems that fulfill the aims of the Engineering Leadership
Program.
The goal of the ELP is to
provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, behaviors, and
knowledge that will accelerate their ability to become creative leaders and
mentors in an increasingly complex world. Representative initiatives include
designing a comprehensive Engineering Leadership certificate program; teaching
leadership modules in existing undergraduate engineering classes; leading a
class or workshop series for engineering students in leadership roles;
designing opportunities for cross-cultural and cross-national leadership
experiences; designing orientation activities; designing and implementing a
peer mentoring program; and other possibilities.
This position offers
opportunity to creatively design programs, collaborate with faculty to deliver
leadership content to students, quantify outcomes and pursue novel research in
the area of leadership development. It is an exciting opportunity to help
build a program that will impact future leaders of industry, technology, and
academia.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree is
required; Master’s preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with an
education or professional experience in engineering, but those with a degree in
the social sciences, organizational behavior, education, science or related fields
are encouraged to apply. Two to three years of experience in higher education,
student services, relevant industry role, or equivalent combination is
required. The ideal candidate has experience developing and delivering
leadership-related workshops and programs; excellent oral and written
communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, and strong attention to
detail; and the ability to work with students, faculty, administrators, and
corporate and foundation representatives. Weekend and evening hours necessary
during peak program times.
