Fred S. Bailey Scholarship, Deadline: February 28, 2011

The University YMCA awards over $100,000 to University of Illinois students working to improve their communities. Incoming freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to receive an award of $3000. Students are eligible to receive this award only once, but may reapply as seniors for the Bailey Leadership Awards.

The Bailey Leadership Awards are $5000 awards given each year to four exceptional upcoming seniors who have made a demonstrated impact on the University of Illinois campus during their initial three years on campus in one or more of the following areas: Social Justice, Environment, Faith Based, and International.

Acecnture Scholarship Program for Minorities, Deadline: January 31, 2011

Accenture is pleased to sponsor the Accenture Scholarship Program for Minorities. This scholarship program was created to encourage minorities to pursue degrees in engineering, computer science, and a variety of programs related to information systems and decision or management sciences.

Scholarship awards of $2,500 are awarded to outstanding students for undergraduate study. Recipients must be enrolled as full-time students in at least two semesters of the 2011-2012 school year to receive the full award.

Applicants to this program must be:
  • African American, Hispanic American, Native American, or Asian American.
  • A U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylee or refugee.
  • Enrolled in at least the third year of course work by the fall semester 2011 in a full-time undergraduate program in engineering (electrical, industrial, mechanical, or systems are preferred), computer science, information systems (accounting, business, computer, management and related), decision or management sciences, or other programs whose curricula are equivalent to the above.
  • Above-average in academic performance. Generally, this means that the applicant is at least a "B" student; however, the difficulty of curriculum concentration and course selection will be considered.
  • Proficient in quantitative skills as evidenced through quantitative course work and/or exams.
Partners, employees, and children of partners and employees of Accenture are not eligible to apply.

SURE REU at UW-Madison, Deadline: February 15, 2011

The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) and Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) is a ten week program running June 1 through August 5, 2011 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Participants receive transportation to and from the program, a single room in a shared apartment, a small food plan, and a $5,000 stipend. 

Applicants should:
-Be interested in pursuing a graduate degree in engineering or physical science.
-Have at least Sophomore standing.
-A GPA of 3.0 or better.
-Be a US citizen.

ICSSP Scholarships, Deadline: March 1, 2011

ILLINOIS CYBER SECURITY SCHOLARS PROGRAM (ICSSP)

Applications for ICSSP scholarships are now being accepted. The scholarships support the last 2 years of undergraduate study in the fields of information assurance and security at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

ICSSP is a program of the Information Trust Institute (ITI), overseen by ITI's NSA Center for Information Assurance Education and Research.

REQUIREMENTS:
To be eligible for consideration for an ICSSP scholarship, you must be
- A United States citizen, and
- A full-time student within two years of graduation in a coherent formal program at Illinois that is focused on computer security or information assurance.

Transfer students are eligible to apply upon admission to the UI College of Engineering; students transferring from 2-year colleges are encouraged to apply.

BENEFITS TO PARTICIPANTS:
The value of the scholarship is approximately $30,000 per year. For a 2-year period, selected students will receive the following benefits:
- Tuition.
- Stipends to support room & board and other costs.
- Funding for travel needed to participate in ICSSP activities, such as relevant workshops and seminars and an annual job fair that all participating students are required to attend.
- Funding towards the cost of textbooks and equipment needed for success in the program.
- Internships and mentoring in a Federal Government and/or National Laboratory setting.
- Guidance from an ITI/ICSSP faculty advisor, identified through the ICSSP program, who can act as a mentor in the information assurance and security fields.
- Experience as an NSF research funding recipient.
- Research opportunities at ITI centers and laboratories.

Google Scholarships

As part of Google's ongoing commitment to advancing computing and technology, we are pleased to provide scholarships to students studying Computer Science. Google's scholarship programs award students from diverse backgrounds who are studying computer science to encourage them to excel in their studies and become active role models and leaders in the field. If selected, recipients will each receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year and be invited to attend the all-expense paid Annual Google Scholars' Retreat at the Googleplex in Mountain View, CA. Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of applicants' academic background and demonstrated passion for computer science.

SHPE Scholarships, Deadline: March 15, 2011

SHPE Chicago will be giving away $20,000 in scholarships!!!


SHPE-Chicago will be giving away $2,000 Scholarships to (10) students who meet the listed criteria, Applications can be downloaded at www.shpechicago.org. Applicants MUST have the completed application submitted/ postmarked by March 15th 2011.

The Fluid Power Scholars Program is a collaborative effort between the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP) and companies in the fluid power industry who are corporate members of the CCEFP. This highly selective summer program identifies and connects the very best undergraduate engineering students across the United States to the fluid power industry with the purpose of training the next-generation of fluid power leaders.

This is a highly competitive program, open to undergraduates who have successfully completed at least two years in an accredited engineering program in the United States. The Scholars program begins with an intensive three-day instructional program in fluid power, taught at the Fluid Power Institute at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), and follows with internships in the fluid power industry. The 2011 Fluid Power short course at MSOE will be held early June 2011. Students should expect to spend 10-11 weeks as a participant in this program. Up to ten undergraduate students will be selected as Fluid Power Scholars by a committee of faculty and industry representatives. In addition to their paid internships, scholars will receive stipends for travel and living expenses associated with their work at MSOE.

Power Reading Course for Spring 2011

I have become more quick in my reading, and, even more importantly, much more effective in retention of what I read and drawing out the important points of what I read. It's a very effective class, and you did a great job teaching it.”

The POWER READING COURSE is designed to help students improve their reading speed, concentration, comprehension and productivity. This is a non-graded, non-credit, twelve session course that meets for 50 minutes on a M-W or T-TH sequence. Sessions will be available twice a semester. Books and materials will be provided. A materials fee of $15.00 will be assessed each student.
